Ha ha not where I live! Most rent and do dull jobs where I am. There are a few rich ones too, but much more towards the pension range here. And I live in one of richest cities in Australia.

can't remember what it is called but the main family live in a million dollar home and there teenage daughter drives a red convertable sports car.
probably worth about 50000$.

I Need Help Getting My Head Straight.......
by TTATTelder inone of the things i have been wresting with mentally is unraveling the "us vs. them" mentality that has been driven into my skull in the organization.. i am starting this thread seeking advice on how others have come to grip with this.. this is what i struggle with:.
i like the feeling/thought of being among people that live, or try to live, or at least know they ought to live by higher standards of conduct (maybe it is just what i'm used to...).
when you walk out of a convention of people dressed up, clean-cut, shaven, non-smoking, less-profanity-speaking, fairly orderly etc and see what greets you in the streets outside, it is a big contrast.. i am also still trying to understand how a religion that has conned people (so is morally wrong) could also be so well organized and have a lot of truly decent folks among their ranks.

I've known of very respectable looking pedophiles in suits walking around those conventions, yet the guy down the road with the dreads and tats is the most open, genuine person around. The thing is, those suits hide all sorts of vice, whereas the dero in the torn shirts and jeans is just responding to his personality. The way non jws dress is far more honest than those suited people playing happy families at a dc.

This week's WT study...made me so sick.....
by stuckinarut2 inthis week's study april 15th 2014 was called "do you see the one who is invisible?".
it was perhaps one of the most depressing, controlling, fear-mongering, stress inducing, doctrinally incorrect, hate-inspiring, judgemental, cult-like, irrational, hyped-up, critical, crazy, stretched out, fanciful, illogical, burdensome, inflated, coersive, manipulative, and brain-snappingly weird stuff i have read for some time.... (but i'm sure it was just a rehash and repeat of previous stuff...for the new masses....).
i had to keep up a sane appearance while in the hall, and even answer some garbage while this was being 'studied'... my cognitive disonance must be so strong now, because i found this one of the hardest ones to endure....now that i am home, i have poured a stiff drink and am trying to clear my head...... one paragraph was classic:.

In freaking believable. A pedo molests dozens of kids and doesn't get disfellowshipped. A kid masturbates once near another kid and is shunned for life. Gee, I thought dozens of molestations would be seen as being "unrepentant" but evidently not.

Unbalanced way of thinking?

this was on the book study day.
he started early and got all the shingles off of the roof in time for the book study that night.

My heart pours out for you bro! You are on the edge of a freak out. You are living a lie and it's tearing you apart. You can't keep going on like this. It's only gonna get worse for your mental health. Believe me, I had several melt downs when I was a jw.
It's probably time to make a stand. Of course I'm not in your situation so can't tell you what to do, especially since your daughter is involved. Perhaps you should talk to a counselor or Steve Hassan. You need some coping mechanisms in place.

WT Doctrine, Population rather than Generation
by VM44 inthe watchtower has forced a rather strange interpretation of the word "generation" in order to keep their doctrinal beliefs concerning the year 1914 consistent with the words of jesus "this generation will not pass...".
however, the watchtower's "overlapping" definition of the word generation is strange and unnatural to common use.
according to the watchtower, a grandfather, son, and grandson all living at the same time would make up a single generation.
